Governors of Infinity: State of the Union (2024)

My friends,

I want to thank you for your patience and resilience through this challenging phase of our evolution.

As you know, 99.9% of projects in this industry have failed, with no hope of resurrection. Their teams have disbanded, and their founders have left.

Sadly, this is quite common in trending industries, where many early participants are purely in it for the opportunity. When the hype dies down, the opportunities vanish, and so do they.

However, at Parallel Planes (the company behind MyMetaverse), our mission has always been to fast-track the adoption of blockchain technology... and save the world.

I understand how ludicrous this might sound, but let me explain.

The Push Towards Transparent & Permissionless

Over the years, we have witnessed enough grifts and hacks in Web3 to understand that blockchain is not the ultimate security tool.

In fact, its transparency can make it easier for bad actors to find vulnerabilities to exploit.

However, it is irrefutably the best source of truth society has ever seen.

One could argue that this transparency is precisely why many bad actors in this space have been exposed.

To me, cryptocurrency and NFTs are a Trojan horse, allowing us to sneak one of the most powerful anti-corruption systems into the most corrupt industries.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant. If we apply this principle across the global economy, I believe we will finally see a day when those in power can no longer operate in shadows to keep us in servitude. Their actions will be measurable, and we will have the information we need to fight back.

Another clear benefit of blockchain is that it democratizes opportunities. Anyone in the world can partake, from the top to the bottom. All you need is the ability to acquire and disseminate information effectively.

Preparing for AI & Climate Change

The years 2040-2060 are going to be challenging for many people. AI will replace the vast majority of jobs (including mine), and climate change will lead to food and water shortages worldwide.

We are set to face the perfect storm of resource shortages and job losses, and as we’ve seen, our economy is not resilient enough to protect us.

However, I believe that in 60-80 years, when the production of every necessity required to sustain human life is automated, we will emerge into a semi-utopian civilization where people only work on what they are passionate about, unless they choose otherwise.

But, to ensure people can survive the chaos that will occur in 2040-2060 and come out stronger, there's a lot we need to do:

1. Create more ways for people to earn money.

2. Drive down the cost of food, water, shelter, energy, and internet until it’s basically free.

3. Transition to an environmentally sustainable economy.

These principles even form the basis for the lore, gameplay, and business model behind our MyMetaverse and Infinity Realms.

In the end, we may or may not be able to "save the whole world", but we can definitely help as many people as we can.

The unification of humanity needs to start somewhere.

It may as well be here, It may as well be now, and it may as well be us.

That’s why I sold my beautiful property near Byron Bay and invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into MyMetaverse and Infinity Realms.

That’s how I kept from going crazy when all of that money disappeared.

That’s why I’m more dedicated to this mission than ever.

Where We’re At

Since running out of money, I’ve had to return to 9-5 work while building on the side.

Today, I’m working as the Ecosystem Lead at Enjin, where my job is to onboard adopters and help them succeed. We have successfully launched the Spark Program, which has dramatically increased the number of incoming contacts, and we will soon relaunch The Multiverse, designed to help these adopters attract and retain players at scale.

If you know of any games that need help finding players, please have them reach out to me at simonkert@enjin.io.

At our peak, MyMetaverse and Infinity Realms had nearly 40 people on the team. Today, we have 4, and we’re all part-time.

Myself and CZB are not earning a wage for the hours we put into these projects. In fact, over the last 4 years, I have never earned a wage for building MyMetaverse or Infinity Realms.

Ricardo, our CTO, is still with us, although he is on an extended sabbatical dealing with the burn out he experienced when building MyMetaverse.

Yulia continues to handle our art.

Everyone else has had to leave due to the financial circumstances of our projects, which is completely understandable.

Current Product Status

I know the big thing you're all wondering about is the status of our products. When can you play again?

Well, the answer is now… but things will look a little different for the foreseeable future.

Play2Earn.Club (Live)

Play2Earn.Club is a platform dedicated to onboarding everyday people into Web3 by giving them an easy way to start playing games and earning NFTs on Enjin Blockchain without even leaving their web browser.

In essence, it’s primarily a place to launch our own games, like Into the Multiverse and Infinity Realms. Which means we don't have to build complex systems to allow other game developers to launch on our platform.

Play2Earn.Club, and all of its games, will be powered by Enjin and fueled by Enjin Coin.

To ensure there is no risk of us running out of money, I have learned to build this myself, leveraging JavaScript, TypeScript, REST, and GraphQL to get this off the ground.

So, the great news is, to keep improving this platform, we don’t need money; we just need time.

You can try it now and start playing our first game – Into the Multiverse.

Into the Multiverse (Live)

Into the Multiverse is an Enjin-powered Web3 runner, designed and developed by CZB with some design work by myself.

Both CZB and I are working for free and putting all the hours we can spare into these projects, so we would appreciate any feedback you can provide to help us improve them.

I hope you’ll agree that this is the most fun browser-based game on the internet. But, if you know of a better one, please share it with us.

Play it now, right here in your browser.

Governors of Infinity (Pivoting)

The dream of MyMetaverse was to create a collection of NFTs that could be usable across an ecosystem of games. That dream is still alive, but the reality is, just building a platform is not quite enough to get games to adopt our NFTs. We need to offer adopters tangible benefits to working with us.

We're very lucky, we are a community of intelligent Web3 gamers who have the innate ability to test complex games and provide actionable feedback. So, I propose that we pivot the Governors of Infinity and design an offering where we provide game developers with testing services in exchange for utility. This will position us as gaming specialists who can play early builds of games and be rewarded for the feedback we provide.

I have a feeling the guys at Into the Multiverse would be happy to be our first partner...

To make this possible, I will be build a website that can be used to attract partners and optimize the process of submitting feedback to them.

Governors who are able to submit feedback will be rewarded with tokens and NFTs. That's how we continue to attract smart, thoughtful gamers to our community.

For those of you who don’t have time to participate in these early access events, if this plan succeeds, you will still benefit from the increased demand for your tokens.

MyMetaverse (Closing)

I’m sorry to say that I made too many mistakes with MyMetaverse. It cannot be redeemed.

I hired too many people and focused too much on speed instead of sustainability. This was my single biggest mistake, as it compounded into countless others. I knew game developers would join our platform and adopt our NFTs if we could offer them enough players, but we ran out of money before we could onboard them.

I also invested too much in building a tech stack with the scalability to serve millions of people, instead of focusing on the features that could actually attract millions of people. This resulted in an overcomplicated codebase that is impossible to maintain and build upon for a small team like ours.

Now, the MyMetaverse tech stack is too robust to reuse, but there is still a lot of useful code within that repository that can be repurposed. I’m very happy to say that Ricardo, a talented developer and a genius in his own right, has committed to staying with us to help us repurpose some of the code and build Artefact Network when he is ready.

In the meantime, I have been hard at work learning about the intricacies of development, which has allowed me to design, develop, and launch Play2Earn.Club myself. This work has forced me to become a better project manager, allowing me to remove all bloat from the process and maintain efficient development that leads to faster product launches.

Infinity Realms (In Stasis)

Infinity Realms is also suffering from serious code bloat, where the scalability and robustness of the tech stack has created a maze of code, making it impossible for our small team to maintain and build upon.

However, once we earn enough revenue, we will be able to build a scaled-down version of Infinity Realms.

If you want to let us know which features we should retain, feel free to discuss in the Infinity Realms Discord.

Survival Infinity: Minecraft  (In Stasis)

Server fees for our Minecraft servers cost about $300 per month.

Once we are earning enough revenue to afford this, we will bring these servers back up and you will be free to play again.

Infinity Auto: GTA (Closed)

We received a threatening Cease & Desist letter from Take Two and Rockstar, they do not allow crypto and NFTs in their platform, so Infinity Auto will not be returning.

Artefact Network (In Stasis)

Once our CTO Ricardo is ready, we will continue work on Artefact Network.

This reward system is designed to bring restaurants and retailers into Web3 by enabling them to issue valuable rewards on the Enjin Blockchain.

Where We’re Going

To be clear, Play2Earn.Club and Into the Multiverse would not be possible without Enjin. Enjin is providing the tech stack that makes Web3 adoptable for an amateur developer like myself.

Our top priority is to achieve profitability through Play2Earn.Club and Into the Multiverse. Then, we can start reinvesting a portion of the profits into relaunching Infinity Realms and the Minecraft server, breathing new life into these beloved projects on Enjin Blockchain.

Governors of Infinity will never be a revenue generator; it’s a passion project, a community of like-minded friends, and the world’s first tokenized tester community. I know from experience that game testing is a very valuable service—as long as the feedback provided is useful. Some game developers spend millions per year on QA, and I’m certain we can find many who would prefer to work with us if we provide a great service.

The mission of the Governors of Infinity is to support the adoption of Web3 gaming, help developers create better games, foster broader blockchain and crypto market adoption, and ultimately contribute to greater transparency in the world.

Our most important topic of discussion right now is the upcoming Governors of Infinity web app. If you have feature requests and suggestions for this app, please share them in the Infinity Realms Discord. On that note, should we rename the Infinity Realms Discord and turn it into the “Governors of Infinity” Discord?

This site will have two main purposes:

  1. To promote the Governors of Infinity community to game developers and help convince them to work with us. To access our testing services, they will need to adopt the Governors of Infinity tokens, such as characters, cars, and other related tokens, thereby giving these tokens value. They will also need to provide us with tokens and rewards that we can give to testers as they provide feedback.
  2. To promote the Governors of Infinity to NFT collectors who want to become governors and gain early access to the best Web3 games and early rewards. These rewards include the tokens already created and those given out to testers. Additionally, partnered game developers will be asked to provide extra tokens. This gives people more reasons to purchase the Governors of Infinity NFTs.

Conclusion

I hope this addresses our current position and clarifies our plans for the future. Starting a company is never easy, let alone a company in a new industry, developing products and services that have never existed before.

Today, It’s time to scale back our product designs to fit into business models that are battle-tested and proven to be effective.

Play2Earn.Club and Into the Multiverse will utilize an MMO-style subscription model, while still allowing its NFTs to be earned for free.

Governors of Infinity will operate as a QA testing group, but, for now, instead of money, we will be paid in utility and tokens. Perhaps in the future, once our services have proven to be effective, we can start asking for more.

From now on, I will release a State of the Union address every year, and I’m looking forward to next year’s being a lot more positive.

Sincerely,

Esscay
